The project features a five-story tower that will be home to a progressive care unit, a trauma surgical unit and a surgical intensive care unit, according to a Dec. 18 UCHealth news release. A radiation oncology department will also be located in the tower.
An additional 22 patient care rooms and a new entrance to MCR’s emergency department are included in the project, along with a new gynecological oncology clinic, infusion center and a medical oncology clinic.
On the south side of the existing hospital building, the project will add a cardiac device lab, structural heart lab, vascular lab and a cardiac catheterization lab.
The project will increase MCR’s bed capacity from 191 to 287, with room for 323 beds. As a result of the expansions, more than 250 additional employees are expected to be hired by UCHealth.
The cancer center is expected to start seeing patients in 2024, with the tower project expected to be completed in 2026, according to the release.
