St. David’s South Austin (Texas) Medical Center is building a $180 million, four-story patient tower to expand inpatient, rehabilitation and surgical care access.
The hospital is part of St. David’s Healthcare, which is a partnership between Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA and two local nonprofits, the St. David’s Foundation and the Georgetown Health Foundation.
Infrastructure construction on the tower began March 2, and work on the tower itself is set to kick off later in 2026, according to a news release shared with Becker’s.
The tower will comprise a 30-bed patient care unit, a 20-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit and four new operating rooms and shell space reserved for future operating room expansion. It also features a seven-bay post-anesthesia care unit, an eight-bed pre- and post-surgical unit, a pre-admit testing suite, a new “utility powerhouse,” a sterile processing department and an expanded main lobby and registration area.
The 363-bed hospital’s main and emergency department entrances will remain open during the construction.
“As South Austin continues to grow, we’re responding with an investment that expands access to surgical, rehabilitation and inpatient care, while strengthening the infrastructure that supports our clinical teams,” Charles Laird, CEO of St. David’s South Austin Medical Center, said in the release. “Every detail of this project—from added operating rooms to a new inpatient rehabilitation unit—is designed to ensure we can continue delivering the highest level of care to our community for years to come.”
