Construction on the tower began in June 2015. It features all private rooms and includes 12 additional intensive-care beds on the second floor and a 14-bed progressive care unit for patients who need high-acuity care but do not require intensive care, according to the report.
With the expansion, the hospital’s total bed count is now 138. The new tower was designed to accommodate future expansion of two floors for an added 48 beds, according to the report.
South Bay Hospital began moving patients to the new tower Dec. 5.
