The pavilion represents the biggest construction project in the hospital’s nearly 70-year history. Rady Children’s leaders estimate the project will cost between $1.2 billion and $1.4 billion.

The tower will house an expanded emergency department, doubling available rooms from 46 to 86. The patient tower will also contain four operating rooms and 140 beds across pediatric, neonatal and cardiac intensive care units.

The project is slated for completion in 2027, according to an Aug. 29 news release.
