NYU Langone Health plans to build a new academic medical center in Melville, N.Y., on a 45-acre site the system purchased May 21 for $135.5 million.
The campus will include a hospital with more than 500 private inpatient rooms and 70 emergency department bays, along with numerous operating and procedure suites. It will also house the tuition-free NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine and dedicated research space, according to a June 2 news release.
An ambulatory network surrounding the campus will expand outpatient access across the region. The health system has more than 120 physician practices on Long Island, with plans to add more.

The project still requires state and local approvals and an environmental impact study.New York City-based NYU Langone has expanded its regional footprint 376% since 2007 and now operates across more than 320 locations. The system completed its merger with Long Island Community Hospital — now NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk in Patchogue, N.Y. — in early 2025 and expects new ambulatory surgery centers to open in Patchogue and Manhasset later this year.
