Charlotte, N.C.-based Novant Health has received certificate-of-need approval from the South Carolina Department of Public Health to build a $320 million hospital in Bluffington, S.C.
The 50-bed hospital, Novant Health Bluffton Medical Center, can expand to 100 beds to accommodate community growth, according to a March 24 news release shared with Becker’s.
Expected to open in 2028, it will comprise medical specialties such as surgical, medical, emergency and trauma services, labor and delivery, cardiology, neurology, orthopedics and intensive care.
Novant Health also plans to add a freestanding emergency department, imaging centers, urgent care, primary and specialty clinics and surgery centers in Bluffton to increase outpatient care.
“Not only will Novant Health Bluffton Medical Center transform healthcare access, but it will also drive significant economic growth in the region, creating as many as 1,000 jobs in the Bluffton area over the next five years,” Joel Taylor, president of Hilton Head (S.C.) Medical Center, said in the release.
