University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque received a key approval to build a seven-story, $400 million patient tower, the Los Alamos Daily Post reported May 23.
The New Mexico Higher Education Department approved the construction of the new tower, which was first proposed in 2019.
The 570,000-square-foot tower will house 96 intensive care beds, 18 operating rooms, several medical labs and an emergency department. It also will have space for a pharmacy, blood bank, physical therapy practice and food service.
The hospital tower will be completed in multiple phases and is slated to open to patients in October 2024.
