Paramus, N.J.-based Valley Health System is seeking to add roughly 100 licensed beds to The Valley Hospital, an $800 million facility that opened in Paramus more than two years ago.
Five things to know:
1. Valley Health System executives presented conceptual plans during a July 16 Paramus Planning Board meeting, according to a July 17 health system news release.
2. The proposal calls for a new patient care wing built as a dedicated specialty inpatient pavilion, designed to integrate with the hospital’s existing structure and complement its architecture. Plans also include a new parking structure.
3. The system said growth has driven the need for more capacity. The Valley Hospital recorded 4,459 births in 2025, up 14.2% from 2024; 31,991 admissions, up 6.1%; and 81,664 emergency department visits, up 4.3%.
“The continued growth in patient demand at Valley reflects the trust our communities place in us and reinforces the need to plan thoughtfully for the future,” Robert Brenner, MD, president and CEO of Valley Health System, said in the release.
4. Valley Health System relocated The Valley Hospital from Ridgewood, N.J., to its current 370-bed Paramus campus in 2024. The former hospital campus then transitioned to an outpatient facility.
5. The expansion remains in the planning phase, pending design work, regulatory approvals and municipal review. Valley Health System anticipates construction could begin in 2027, pending those reviews.
A health system spokesperson told Becker’s that detailed cost estimates have not yet been finalized.
