Charleston, S.C.-based MUSC Health and Dallas-based Intuitive Health have opened the state’s first combined emergency and urgent care facility.
Four things to know:
1. MUSC Health Emergency and Urgent Care-Garners Ferry is part of MUSC Health Columbia (S.C.) Medical Center Downtown, according to a June 18 health system news release.
2. It includes a 24/7 on-site laboratory and radiology services, including X-ray, ultrasound and a 64-slice CT scanner. The center also accommodates EMS and ambulances.
3. Patients are evaluated by emergency-trained providers upon arrival and directed to either emergency or urgent care services based on their clinical needs. Patients are billed only for the level of care they receive.
4. The facility is part of a broader partnership between MUSC Health and Intuitive Health. The organizations opened a freestanding emergency room on Kiawah Island, S.C., in December and are building additional combined emergency and urgent care facilities in Charleston.
MUSC employs more than 36,200 faculty, physicians, providers, scientists and staff.
