Here are five things to know about the expansion.
1. The plan includes a 35,000-square-foot emergency department housing 50 treatment bays, 155 private patient rooms and 12 operating tables.
2. After the expansion, the hospital will be able to service up to 100,000 visits annually, up from the roughly 50,000 visits it received in 2016, according to the report.
3. Mount Sinai’s expansion will be designed to endure Category 5 hurricane winds and flooding. It will also raise the hospital three feet above the ground.
4. The facility will be reoriented to maximize views of Miami and the nearby water and aesthetics of the hospital will be updated to require minimal signage.
5. Officials expect to complete the expansion at the end of 2018, according to the report.
