San Antonio-based Methodist Healthcare broke ground April 30 on a freestanding emergency room in San Antonio, bringing the system’s total number of freestanding ERs to 11.
Methodist ER Medina Valley will serve as an extension of Methodist Hospital Westover Hills in San Antonio, according to an April 30 news release shared with Becker’s.
The 11,175-square-foot facility will run 24/7 and comprise 12 emergency treatment rooms, an on-site laboratory and advanced imaging such as CT and radiology.
Construction began on the facility in March and is expected to be complete in March 2027.
“As our region continues to grow, so does the need for fast, reliable access to emergency care,” Megan Amalakuhan, CEO of Methodist Hospital—Westover Hills, said in the release. “For families in Medina Valley and surrounding communities, this freestanding emergency room will mean shorter drive times during emergencies, quicker access to diagnostics and treatment, and greater peace of mind knowing that expert care is close to home.”
