MGH pediatric neurosurgeon Ann-Christine Duhaime, MD, launched a campaign to build a consolidated pediatrics center at the hospital harnessing eco-conscious practices. Dr. Duhaime’s idea includes rooms looking out on trees and plants, solar panels, energy-efficient windows and ultra-smooth countertops, which will hinder the spread of bacteria and help MGH cut back on cleaning chemical use.
Hospital leaders have allowed Dr. Duhaime to spend a day each week developing her proposal, according to the report. Officials have also encouraged hospital design staff to collaborate with Dr. Duhaime.
MGH’s pediatrics program competes with Boston Children’s Hospital, which received approval last week for a $1 billion expansion.
