Lakewood Ranch Medical Center in Florida, a subsidiary hospital of King of Prussia, Pa.-based Universal Health Services, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony March 24 for its new patient tower, with the first patients expected in April, according to the hospital and a UHS spokesperson.
The opening marks completion of the first phase of the hospital’s $120 million expansion project. The five-story, 170,000-square-foot tower — expandable to seven stories — adds 60 beds, with shell space for an additional 60 beds in a future phase.
The expansion is the most significant investment in the hospital since it opened in 2004 and is intended to meet growing demand in the Lakewood Ranch community, according to UHS.
The tower is designed to support higher-acuity care, including complex cardiology and neurology services, as well as expanded lab, pharmacy and pre-admission testing services, according to the hospital.
