Buffalo, N.Y.-based Kaleida Health has received a ‘transformational gift’ from the Scott Bieler Family Foundation to its Kaleida Health Foundation to support projects at its Buffalo General Medical Center. The donation amount was not provided.
Kaleida will rename the hospital the Scott Bieler Buffalo General Medical Center in January 2027 in recognition of the gift, according to a Sept. 21 news release shared with Becker’s.
The gift will support investments like a replacement of the procedural laboratories in the Gates Vascular Institute, which includes cardiovascular, neurosurgical and interventional radiology; the addition of new technology for surgical visualization systems in eleven operating rooms; and the addition of a new Da Vinci surgical robot to expand access to minimally invasive robotic-assisted surgery.
The initial projects will start immediately and will be completed over the coming months and years in phases. The donation scope over decades to come will also allow for additional projects in the future, the release said.
Scott Bieler is the CEO and majority owner of the West Herr Automotive Group and Kathy Bieler served as the finance and operations director for more than 20 years at what is known today as the McDermid Financial Group. Both Scott and Kathy formed the Scott Bieler Family Foundation, which is committed to enhancing quality of life in Western New York through support of educational, health and community service organizations.
