Philadelphia-based Jefferson Health broke ground Oct. 27 on its fifth neighborhood hospital, Lehigh Valley Hospital-Coopersburg (Pa.), which is expected to open in late 2027.
The hospital will be part of a new campus spanning Coopersburg Borough and Upper Saucon Township in southeastern Lehigh County, about nine miles from Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.
The facility will have 11 emergency department beds and 10 inpatient beds for patients requiring overnight stays, additional monitoring or testing. Like Jefferson’s other neighborhood hospitals, it will provide 24/7 emergency care and stabilize patients who need to be transferred to a larger hospital.
The campus will also include Health Center at Coopersburg, which will offer primary care, adult rehabilitation, rheumatology and other services.
“This investment will bring leading-edge care closer to home and create new opportunities for individuals and families across Lehigh County and the surrounding region to access exceptional healthcare in a convenient, community-based setting,” Baligh Yehia, MD, president of Jefferson Health, said in an Oct. 27 news release.
Jefferson currently operates three neighborhood hospitals in its Lehigh Valley region: Lehigh Valley Hospital-Macungie, Lehigh Valley Hospital-Gilbertsville and Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono Creek. A fourth facility, Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hellertown, is also set to open in 2027.
