Intermountain acquired the Sears building in 2021 and plans to turn it into an urban hospital. The Salt Lake City Zoning Commission voted 7-3 to give Intermountain’s zoning request a favorable recommendation with the city council.

Heather Wall, CEO of Intermountain’s Salt Lake City-based LDS Hospital, said that the new hospital could bring in 1,700 employees.
