Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill (N.J.) opened its expanded maternity unit Aug. 17 as part of the hospital’s $257 million expansion and renovation project.
The hospital is part of Mullica Hill-based Inspira Health. The maternity unit expansion comes at a time of maternity service cuts and closures across the country, with Becker’s reporting on 20 of these closures so far in 2026.
Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill’s expanded maternity unit has doubled to 36,000 square feet, and increased staffed maternity beds from 20 to 38 beds, according to an Aug. 17 news release from the health system.
“Opening this expanded maternity unit is an important step forward for families across South Jersey and for the future of Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill,” Lydia Stockman, executive vice president and chief clinical officer at Inspira Health, said in the release. “More families are choosing Inspira to welcome their babies, and this investment gives our teams the space, capacity and flexibility to meet that demand while continuing to provide high-quality care close to home.”
The hospital’s larger expansion and renovation project includes a new 150,000-square-foot, five-story tower, increased surgical and intensive care capacity, existing area renovations, additional parking and expanded clinical education and residency program space, the release said.
The five-story tower is expected to start providing patient care in early 2027.
The plan comprises an additional 32-bed surgical unit, additional intensive care capacity and specialized neuro intensive care unit resources. It’s also expected to add 86 beds to the hospital, increasing its bed count to 296, while adding a 24-bed observation unit.
