Honolulu-based Hawaii Pacific Health has received $4 million from the Hawaii Medical Service Association to support the redevelopment of Straub Benioff Medical Center.
The gift supports the first phase of a three-part expansion project to increase healthcare access. Currently, construction crews are building a new parking garage that will more than triple the number of spaces compared to the hospital’s existing structure, according to a May 14 news release.
Hawaii Pacific Health is also expanding Hilo (Hawaii) Benioff Medical Center in an $80 million project.
The next redevelopment phase will involve demolishing the old parking garage to build a multistory medical tower. The new facility will feature an expanded emergency department and larger patient and operating rooms, the release said.
Straub Benioff, a 159-bed hospital, will name its new meeting and conference center in recognition of HMSA’s contribution.
