“That’s the only reason we’re doing this is because of the expectation [of affordable housing],” Pensacola Mayor Grover Robinson said during a council agenda conference Aug. 15.
Baptist Hospital is currently waiting to hear back from potential developers to construct the conditional affordable housing, according to the News Journal.
The hospital has been looking for offers for the property and for buyers who would redesign it according to the hospital’s renovation plans. The historic Kupfrian House is currently serving as an office space for the hospital.
Both the city and the hospital had an appraisal done on the property. Pensacola’s appraisal valued the house at $475,000 and the hospital’s appraisal valued it at $975,000. The two appraisals were split, resulting in the $725,000 offer from the city.
The Pensacola City Council will decide Aug. 18 whether or not it will purchase the property to create a city park.
