The Regional Planning Commission on Monday approved a zoning change needed to build the 88-bed facility, according to the report.
But the project is not in the clear yet. The zoning change still must get the OK from Hamilton County commissioners, and the new hospital must still be approved by state officials.
Additionally, Erlanger officials said they still face opposition from Nashville, Tenn.-based Hospital Corporation of America, which operates two mental health facilities in Chattanooga, the Times Free Press reports.
If approved, the new facility could open by the end of 2017.
