Birmingham, Ala.-based Encompass Health has opened a 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Bangor, Maine.
Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Bangor treats patients recovering from strokes, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, amputations and complex orthopedic conditions, according to an Oct. 6 news release from the system.
The facility spans more than 54,000 square feet and features private patient rooms, a therapy gym, an activities of daily living suite, an in-house dialysis suite, an in-house pharmacy and an outdoor therapy courtyard.
Mat Gooch, president of Encompass Health’s Northeast region, said in the release that the hospital will meet significant demand for specialized rehabilitation in the Bangor area and help “alleviate inpatient capacity pressures on the region’s acute care hospitals.”
The Bangor hospital is Encompass Health’s first wholly owned hospital in Maine. The system’s other Maine facility, New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland, is a longstanding joint venture with Portland-based MaineHealth.
Encompass operates 178 hospitals in 39 states and Puerto Rico.
