Grand Rapids and Southfield, Mich.-based Corewell Health and Mechanicsburg, Pa.-based Select Medical have formed a joint venture to build and operate a new 84-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Sterling Heights, Mich.
The four-story hospital will be built next to Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital and will treat patients recovering from stroke, spinal cord and brain injuries, amputations and medically complex orthopedic conditions, according to a Sept. 2 news release from the systems. The facility will feature advanced rehabilitative technology and individualized care plans aimed at restoring patient function, mobility and independence.
Lamont Yoder, RN, president of Corewell Health in Southeast Michigan, said the project responds to rising demand for inpatient rehabilitation in the region and will nearly quadruple the current footprint at Troy.
The joint venture hospital is moving through regulatory and municipal reviews and is expected to open in 2029.
Corewell Health operates 21 hospitals and more than 60,000 employees across Michigan. Select Medical operates 41 rehabilitation hospitals in 15 states and 103 critical illness recovery hospitals in 28 states.
