Newark, Del.-based ChristianaCare has opened its first neighborhood hospital, ChristianaCare Hospital, West Grove (Pa.).
The 20,000-square-foot hospital is a small-format model designed to provide around-the-clock emergency and inpatient care, advanced imaging and virtual access to specialists in a modern, patient-centered setting, according to the health system.
The hospital includes a 10-bed emergency department and a 10-bed inpatient unit for overnight stays, observation and diagnostics. The facility is staffed with emergency physicians, nurses and clinical specialists. It offers lab and imaging services — including ultrasound, CT scans and X-rays — and virtual access to specialists in cardiology, critical care and infectious disease.
ChristianaCare, which developed the facility in partnership with Emerus Holdings, plans to expand this model across southeastern Pennsylvania. Neighborhood hospitals in Aston and Springfield Townships are in development, with the Aston location expected to open in late 2026.
In addition, ChristianaCare recently added 15 new services across five outpatient facilities acquired from Upland, Pa.-based Crozer Health, which shut down in May. New outpatient facilities — including surgery centers, behavioral health locations and primary care centers — are expected to open in Pennsylvania in August and September, pending provider credentialing, regulatory processes and inspections.
Last month, ChristianaCare announced plans to merge with Marlton, N.J.-based Virtua Health to create a $6 billion regional nonprofit health system with more than 600 care sites across Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
