Mountain View, Calif.-based El Camino Health submitted an application June 15 for a new all-electric replacement hospital campus.
Five things to know:
1. The application to the Town of Los Gatos seeks to rebuild El Camino Health Los Gatos (Calif.) Hospital, replacing the existing facility with a new acute care campus, according to a June 15 health system news release.
2. The proposed hospital will include 122 single occupancy patient rooms, 12 operating rooms, a larger emergency department and expanded maternity, cardiac and oncology services. The 340,000-square-foot campus would be built adjacent to the existing hospital.
3. The new facility is designed to meet current California seismic requirements and would be the first all-electric hospital in Los Gatos, which El Camino Health estimates will reduce the entire town’s carbon emission levels.

El Camino Health acquired the former Community Hospital of Los Gatos in 2009 and has invested more than $300 million in renovations and clinical services, along with $1.4 million in community grants. The existing hospital opened in 1962 and does not meet state-mandated seismic standards, according to the release.
5. The project is estimated to cost more than $1 billion and is projected to be completed and opened in 2032. During construction, the existing hospital will continue providing patient care and services.
