The city’s Board of Supervisors postponed a vote on the projects until March, but San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee called it “the last extension” and said they were “very close” to an agreement.
Officials raised concerns about the deal in July 2012 when leaked documents showed scenarios in which CPMC could pull out of contributing $86 million in charity care and operating a hospital serving mostly low-income patients.
Among the construction plans proposed by CPMC, which is part of the Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health network, is a new 555-bed hospital at a new site and a rebuilding of St. Luke’s Hospital, which merged with CPMC in 2007.
