Bon Secours Rappahannock General Hospital in Kilmarnock, Va., plans a $73.3 million modernization project, according to an Oct. 22 news release shared with Becker’s.

The project, which builds on a campus expansion and renovation completed in 2025, includes about 25,264 square feet of renovations and 18,898 square feet of new construction to update patient rooms, clinical and support areas, and infrastructure. Construction is expected to begin in summer 2027 and will be phased so the hospital can remain open.

Funding will come from Cincinnati-based Bon Secours Mercy Health and a new community fundraising campaign tied to the hospital’s 50th anniversary in 2027, according to the release.

Rappahannock General, a critical access hospital that opened in 1977, serves Virginia’s Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula and includes a 10-bed acute psychiatric unit.
