Marriottsville, Md.-based Bon Secours, part of Bon Secours Mercy Health, on May 12 broke ground on a $200 million expansion at Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News, Va., according to a news release shared with Becker’s.
The project includes a new four-story, 144,000-square-foot patient tower that will expand emergency, women’s and critical care services, according to the release. Plans call for redesigned main and emergency entrances, an emergency department that will double capacity from 15 to 30 beds, 10 additional observation beds, a new labor and delivery unit and a larger neonatal intensive care unit that will expand from eight to 10 rooms.
The expansion will also include a new ICU and a universal care model designed to allow critically ill patients to remain on the same unit throughout different levels of care, the health system said.
The patient tower is expected to open in 2028.
