As hospitals and health systems navigate the rising costs of care, aging infrastructure, and increasingly urgent sustainability goals, one company is helping them meet these challenges head-on. Bernhard, a trusted name in energy infrastructure for more than a century, has officially rebranded as ENFRA. The change signals the next phase of its evolution as a leader in Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) and energy infrastructure solutions.

The rebrand, effective May 1, 2025, reflects the company’s sharpened focus on delivering innovative energy solutions that support mission-driven institutions like hospitals and health systems. While the name has changed, ENFRA’s leadership, ownership, and core services remain the same. Clients can expect continuity in service and a renewed commitment to future-ready solutions.

“For more than a century, we’ve delivered energy infrastructure services with excellence and integrity,” said Rob Guthrie, CEO of ENFRA. “Our new name, ENFRA, captures the energy and infrastructure core of our business while positioning us for continued growth in the energy transition.”

In the past five years alone, ENFRA’s EaaS business has grown from 10 percent to nearly 50 percent of total company revenue. The company now operates in 25 states with over 2,000 employees and has active EaaS partnerships from coast to coast, including with prominent healthcare clients such as Adventist Health System/West and Hackensack Meridian Health.

ENFRA’s EaaS model is specifically designed to meet the financial and operational realities of healthcare institutions. By taking on the capital burden and operational risk of energy infrastructure upgrades, ENFRA enables hospitals to modernize facilities, lower emissions, and reduce costs without sacrificing liquidity or taking on additional debt.

The results speak for themselves:

  • $87 million in annual guaranteed energy cost savings
  • 246,000 MWh of electricity saved per year
  • 865,000 MMBtu in reduced fuel consumption annually
  • 146,000 metric tons of CO emissions avoided each year

Healthcare partners gain access to long-term solutions that strengthen energy resilience, improve building performance, and support sustainability goals, all while keeping their focus where it matters most: on delivering high-quality patient care.

“This rebrand isn’t about changing who we are. It’s about aligning our identity with the impact we’re already making,” Guthrie said. “As ENFRA, we will continue delivering vertically integrated energy solutions, from engineering and construction to asset management and long-term EaaS partnerships.”

With a national footprint, deep sector expertise, and a proven track record of performance, ENFRA is positioned to lead the healthcare sector through the next era of energy transformation. New regional offices in California and the Northeast are expanding the company’s reach even further, offering hospitals across the country access to scalable, sustainable infrastructure solutions.

“Healthcare organizations need partners who understand the stakes and who can deliver outcomes, not just upgrades,” said Guthrie. “ENFRA is that partner. Our name may be new, but our commitment is stronger than ever.”
