Clearwater, Fla.-based BayCare Health System filed plans with the City of Tampa to renovate a former CVS pharmacy into a freestanding emergency department, Tampa Bay Business & Wealth reported March 12.
If approved, the vacant one-story building on South Dale Mabry Highway will be redeveloped into a 13,305 square-foot emergency facility. The declared construction value is $9 million. BayCare Properties acquired the site for $6 million in early 2025, according to city records obtained by the outlet.
The facility, according to current plans, will house exam rooms, a trauma room, administrative space, CT and radiology imaging suites, and laboratory services. The freestanding ED would be affiliated with BayCare’s St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa.
“Patients are seeking convenient, efficient access to high-quality emergency care, and freestanding emergency departments help meet that need,” C. Todd Jones, BayCare’s chief strategy officer and chief ambulatory services officer, told the outlet. “The Dale Mabry site gives BayCare an opportunity to expand access to our emergency services for the South Tampa community.”
A spokesperson for BayCare confirmed to Becker’s that the Tampa Bay Business & Wealth’s report is accurate. Becker’s will update this story should more information become available.
