The selection of the companies advanced the replacement proposal to the design stage.

Baptist Health Care selected Gresham Smith, a Tennessee-based architecture, engineering and design practice, to serve as the architect; Meadows & Ohly of Peachtree Corners of Georgia to serve as program manager; and Brasfield & Gorrie, a construction firm in Alabama, to serve as general contractor.

The new 650,000-square-foot hospital will replace its aging Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, which saw its first patient in 1951.

The new hospital is expected to open in 2023.
