Kalamazoo, Mich.-based Ascension Borgess Hospital is considering bringing back midwife care after the hospital cut its midwife staff from seven midwives to three in August 2022; the cut resulted in all but one midwife leaving, mlive.com reported March 3.
According to the hospital, the cuts were part of a COVID-19 financial recovery. Midwives who were laid off told mlive.com that they were informed last week that the hospital was considering returning the services.
The hospital did not respond to mlive.com’s request for comment.
