5 hospitals planning upgrades, expansions

Five hospitals or health systems announced, started or completed construction projects in the last two weeks:

1. Medical West to build 200-bed replacement hospital
Medical West Hospital, an affiliate of the University of Alabama-Birmingham Health System, secured approval to build a 200-bed replacement hospital.

2. 88-bed Idaho hospital to open in November
The Idaho Falls Community Hospital, an 88-bed facility will open Nov. 4.

3. After 112 years, Maryland hospital moves to new campus
Washington Adventist Hospital has been in Takoma Park, Md., since it opened in 1907. On Aug. 25, the hospital will move to its new $400 million campus in White Oak, Md.

4. UPMC’s 130-bed replacement hospital opens 
Pittsburgh-based UPMC’s replacement Memorial Hospital in York, Pa., opened Aug. 18.

5. Florida hospital to build $152M tower
St. Petersburg, Fla.-based St. Anthony’s Hospital plans to build a $152 million, 90-bed patient tower.
