3 hospital projects with $500M+ price tags in 2 days

Many health systems have been busy planning new hospitals and expansion projects.

Here are three hospital projects that cost over $500 million that Becker's reported on in two days:

1. St. Louis-based Mercy filed a letter of intent with the Missouri department of health and senior services to build a 75-bed, $650 million hospital in Wentzville, Mo., to expand healthcare amid population growth in the area. The 483,000-square-foot hospital will sit on 60 acres and bring in hundreds of long-term healthcare jobs. Hospital construction is expected to take around four years. 

2. Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network and its parent company Highmark Health shared plans for a $1 billion, 10-year transformation project at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. The plans feature a new patient tower that will house the AHN Cardiovascular Institute with 100 private beds. Construction is expected to kick off in early 2025 with plans to open in 2030.

3. Clearwater, Fla.-based BayCare Health System is planning to build a $538 million nonprofit hospital in Manatee County, Fla. BayCare Hospital Manatee will feature 154 beds and is expected to kick off construction in October with an anticipated opening in 2027.
