The two new hospitals will be operated by Raleigh, N.C.-based WakeMed Health and include a $214 million facility in Garner close to where it already operates a freestanding emergency department location. The other facility is a $137 million behavioral health hospital with 150 beds.
In addition, 18 extra beds each were approved for hospitals operated by Durham, N.C.-based Duke Health and Chapel Hill, N.C.-based UNC Health.
Additional beds to meet demand would still be needed at some of its hospital locations, UNC Health said in a statement. The 18 additional beds were approved for its Raleigh-based UNC Rex hospital at a cost of $8.3 million.
