Here are four things to know about the move.
1. The health system plans to move the trauma center to Gulf Coast Medical Center as part of a $315 million expansion of that health center, which is more centrally located.
2. Neuroscience services and oncology treatment would also relocate to Gulf Coast, which health officials said will better accommodate the large medical equipment necessary to provide that care, according to the report.
3. Lee Memorial Health System’s elected governing board must still sign off on the move, which likely would not occur until 2020.
4. The health system does not anticipate any job cuts as a result of the changes.
