Beaumont Hospital-Royal Oak begins construction on $120M ED

Beaumont Hospital-Royal Oak (Mich.) has broken ground on a 125,300-square-foot emergency department, estimated to cost $120.8 million.

Of the 125 private rooms in the new ED, 16 will be dedicated to the Beaumont Children's Hospital. Other features of the center will include noninvasive heart monitoring and testing equipment, a secure instant messaging computer system, digital imaging capabilities, an MRI machine and handheld devices for all the caregivers.

Construction on the ED — which will feature energy efficient features like LED lighting — is scheduled to be completed in the spring 2017.

"The emergency center is our front door," said Shane Cerone, president of the Royal Oak hospital. "We are thrilled that this expansion will allow us to care for even more patients in a modern and private environment."
