Here are five things to know about the Skip Viragh Outpatient Cancer Building.
1. The center is named after Albert P. “Skip” Viragh Jr., a Maryland mutual fund investment leader, philanthropist and pancreatic cancer patient treated at Johns Hopkins who died in 2003.
2. It will provide services to patients with solid tumors, aiding over 180 patients daily and 60 to 80 new patients each week. It will also include diagnostic and treatment planning services for patients.
3. The 10th floor of the building will house the Under Armour Breast Health Innovation Center, which includes breast health services such as nutritional counseling and survivorship services. Under Armour donated $10 million to the center, which marks the sports brand’s largest gift ever to any group, according to The Baltimore Sun.
5. The center is one of 45 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers. It is the only one in the state of Maryland.
4. The project was first announced in 2014, and the center is slated to open in 2017.
