Earlier that day, U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross told The Wall Street Journal his office was postponing its timeline to publish a report on automobile tariffs due to ongoing negotiations with Mexico, Canada and the European Commission.
“We’re going to put a 25 percent tax on every car that comes into the United States from the European Union,” said President Trump, according to CNBC.
