Amazon did not disclose why Mr. Ropell is leaving. He will remain with the company for a few months with Ted Hope and Matt Newman assuming his duties while a permanent replacement is sought.
Under Mr. Roppel, Amazon Studios’ film division became a major player in Hollywood, with “Manchester by the Sea” becoming the first film produced by a streaming service to earn an Academy Award nomination for best picture in 2017.
