Berkshire Hathaway now has $46.6B stake in Apple

Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway picked up another 12.4 million Apple shares in the second quarter, according to an Aug. 14 Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

The additional shares increased Berkshire Hathaway's stake in Apple to $46.6 billion, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Apple became the first U.S. company to reach $1 trillion market valuation Aug. 2. There are more than 4.8 billion shares of Apple, and investors previously suggested a $203.45 share price would help it reach the $1 trillion mark. However, the company returned $100 billion to shareholders as part of a stock buyback program in May, which pushed the benchmark higher.
