Here are three things to know.
1. Amazon posted its top 20 cities for its “HQ2” Jan. 18, including Newark. A person familiar with the conference call said Amazon wants the next selection phase to be quieter than the previous one, which drew 238 applicants.
“They gave the indication that they wanted the public discourse to stop,” the person told ROI, requesting anonymity because the person isn’t authorized to speak on the matter.
2. In addition to requesting less public discourse during the selection process, Amazon officials said the 20 finalists will likely get a second request for proposal by the end of this week. This RFP will not be released to the public, according to the report. Amazon officials will make site visits to finalist cities, but visits will not be public events.
3. It remains unclear whether Amazon will pare down the 20 finalists to another list of select candidates. Amazon’s decision on HQ2 is slated to come by the end of this year, according to the report.
