Nuance adds Mark Sherwood as CIO: 4 things to know

Nuance Communications appointed Mark Sherwood as senior vice president and CIO, the artificial intelligence and voice solutions provider confirmed July 16.

Here are four things to know about Mr. Sherwood:

1. In his new role at Nuance, Mr. Sherwood will oversee the company's infrastructure operations, core data services, business systems, software-as-a-service delivery and information security.

2. Mr. Sherwood previously served as vice president of IT at cybersecurity software company Symantec Corp. and held various leadership roles at networking company Cisco Systems. In total, he maintains nearly 30 years of experience in cloud-based applications, security posture and customer service.

3. He holds an MBA from the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

4. Mr. Sherwood will work at Nuance's headquarters in Burlington, Mass., and report to the company's CEO Mark Benjamin, who joined Nuance in April.

"We are excited to welcome Mark Sherwood to Nuance," Mr. Benjamin said in Nuance's July 16 statement. "He has a deep understanding of hosting operations and the technical intricacies involved in our complex deployments, which will be instrumental as we work to optimize our structure to increase efficiency, mitigate costs and expand cloud and hosting options for our customers."
