Steven Scott allegedly grabbed a woman inappropriately at a conference in 2010 and took advantage of others on separate occasions, according to a post on Medium by Kristian Lum, PhD, the lead statistician at Human Rights Data Analytics Group.
Dr. Lum alleges “S,” later identified by Bloomberg as Mr. Scott, groped her during the event and separately pressured her friend to have sex with him, despite him being married and her being engaged. According to her post, Mr. Scott was often seen as a respected academic whose bad behavior — like many other men in her field — remains an open secret in the community.
A spokeswoman for Google told Bloomberg the company is investigating the allegations, but Mr. Scott has reportedly been suspended while the investigation is ongoing.
