“AI has become part of the fabric of modern life, with applications in sectors ranging from agriculture to retail to health to education,” two of Google’s policy leads wrote in a Jan. 22 company blog post on the white paper.
“As with other technologies, there are new policy questions that arise with the use of AI,” the blog post continues. “No one company, country or community has all the answers; on the contrary, it’s crucial for policy stakeholders worldwide to engage in these conversations.”
Five areas that government, civil society groups and AI practitioners should collaborate on to guide the responsible development and use of AI:
1. Explainability standards
2. Fairness appraisal
3. Safety considerations
4. Human-AI collaboration
5. Liability frameworks
