Neuralink, Elon Musk’s secretive neurotech startup, raised $39.3 million toward a total offering amount of $51.3 million in a recent round of funding, according to an SEC filing dated May 10.

This brings Neuralink’s total funding up to about $66.3 million; in August 2017, the company reported raising $27 million of a target of $100 million. At the time, however, despite the filing, Mr. Musk wrote in a tweet that “Neuralink is not raising money.”

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO founded Neuralink in 2016 with a goal of creating a brain-computer interface to enhance the human brain using artificial intelligence. Though Mr. Musk has yet to unveil this technology, he has hinted several times in recent months that the company will have an announcement to make “soon.”
