The bill aims to help accelerate the use of AI across public and private sectors and maintain the country’s global leadership in the space. If passed, the Artificial Intelligence Initiative Act would create a National AI Coordination Office in addition to committees aimed at developing and coordinating AI efforts.
The bill could also lead to more oversight and standardization of AI tools. It requires the National Institute of Standards and Technologies to create standards to evaluate AI algorithms and their training data sets. The National Science Foundation would be tasked with addressing the societal and ethical aspects of AI, including issues like data bias and privacy.
