Avera Health deploys clinical decision support software for labor and delivery

Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Avera Health plans to implement clinical decision support software at birthing units systemwide, software developer PeriGen confirmed July 10.

The labor analysis software, PeriWatch, uses artificial intelligence to help clinicians interpret fetal heart rate patterns. PeriGen’s mission is to provide physicians with early warning of any complications to improve patient safety during labor and delivery.

“The documentation is thorough and combined with clinical judgment, it can help identify issues earlier,” Kimberlee McKay, MD, clinical vice president of Avera Health’s OB-GYN service line, said in the company’s July 10 statement.
