Amazon backed this speech-recognition startup

Startup DefinedCrowd has raised $11.8 million in venture capital funding, with help from major corporations like Mastercard, Amazon and Sony, according to The Seattle Times.

DefinedCrowd helps companies train algorithms to understand speech and images for their digital products.

In 2016, DefinedCrowd participated in a Microsoft initiative in which Microsoft shared its expertise with new startups. Later that year, Amazon contributed $1.1 million to DefinedCrowd's seed funding round.

DefinedCrowd has offices in Seattle, Portugal and Japan, and it recently expanded its work with Amazon, which uses the startup's capabilities to help develop and test Alexa voice software applications.
