Dr. Charles Elliot Elected Vice President of Alabama State Board of Education

Yesterday the Alabama State Board of Education elected Charles Elliot, MD, as their vice president.

Dr. Elliot is an anesthesiologist from Decatur, Ala. He earned his medical degree at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, and he is affiliated with Decatur General Hospital, Parkway Medical Center Hospital and Surgery Center of Decatur.
 
Dr. Elliot, who has been a member of the Board of Education since 2010, will serve as the de-facto leader of the Board, as its president, Alabama Gov. Robert Bently, will only attend meetings involving vital systemic decisions, according to a report from Alabama Media Group
 
Dr. Elliot’s duties will include running all meetings and work sessions at which Gov. Bently is not present.
