ASA Lists Common Tests, Procedures That May Be Unnecessary

The American Society of Anesthesiologists announced it has released a list of specific tests or procedures that are commonly ordered but not always necessary in anesthesiology, as part of ABIM Foundation's Choosing Wisely initiative.

The initiative aims at engaging physicians and patients in conversations to help reduce overuse of tests and procedures.

The ASA list identifies five targeted, evidence-based recommendations that can support conversations between patients and physicians about which of the tests or procedures are necessary.
